Domains and Topics
Data for Health (D4H) primarily focuses on four domains: cancer registries; civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS); data impact; and non-communicable diseases (NCD) surveillance. Each D4H resource has been assigned up to three topic names to reflect the nature and scope of the work. Topics cross-cut domains and are ordered by their frequency within each domain. Domains
Cancer Registries
The Cancer Registries Program supports countries in establishing and bolstering population-based cancer registries to track cancer data, focusing on a combination of strengthening existing registries, building new ones where appropriate, and offering technical assistance and training activities. Our goal is to support a sustainable registry system that informs data-driven planning, including informing cancer control and prevention activities, prioritization and budgeting, and policy development
Civil Registration and Vital Statistics
Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) systems aim to register all births and deaths, issue birth and death certificates, and compile and disseminate vital statistics, including cause of death information. D4H partners with governments to strengthen and standardize birth and death records to better inform policymaking and improve public health outcomes.
Data Impact
The Data Impact Program partners with governments to increase data utilization for public health planning and policy development. Through these partnerships, governments use data more effectively to address public health issues by emphasizing global best practices in data use. The Data Impact Program also emphasizes the importance of disseminating data with the general public and academia through training on communication, public health journalism, and scientific communication.
Noncommunicable disease risk factor surveillance
The noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) program aims to improve the collection and analysis of major NCD risk factors through support to international experts to develop new mobile phone based surveys and support to country staff to administer surveys and analyze results.
